Never miss an update!
Dec 11, 2025
On September 28th, the community, local government leaders, members of the Congregational Church and the Tallmadge Historical Society came together to reconize that it has been 200 years since the first service was held in our historic Church. Also present were represenatives of the original families from that era including Jack Sperry and Caroline Mackey of the Wright Family.
On December 24th, 1822 there was a contest to see who could get the first tree to the Town Square for the construction of the church. The winner won a "jug" of whiskey. Jack Sperrys' several times over grandfather won the prize (it was actually a wooden keg of whiskey). Jack brought the keg to the celebration (less the whiskey) and on behalf of his family and himself, donated the keg to the Society. The keg now sits on display in the Old Town Hall for all to see. Thank you to the Sperry Family for guarding this treasure and for donating it back to our community.
